At different points in your life, you may be ready for a change. It’s all very natural, as you’ll often find that you’re ready to move forward as you grow. Along with moving on to new chapters in your life, moving home, and even making new friends, you may also feel ready for a bit of career change at different times in your life. Sometimes, you feel like something just doesn’t feel right, so you’ll go through the process of trying to work out what. And this is often when you can discover that you’re not happy with your current job or with your career path and you know that you need a change. So what do you do?

Well, you need a plan. Because right now, you’ve worked out where you don’t want to be, and you need to know where you’re going from here. Sometimes, you may even find that it’s all a bit of a natural progression. That you come to the end of enjoying the job that you’re doing and you know that you’re ready to move on. But even knowing that this is what you want doesn’t mean that you’ll know how to go about making it happen. So, we’re going to walk through the steps that you may need to take in order to make your career change happen.

Visualize Your Ideal Life

It’s always easier to work out what you don’t want to do than figure out what it is that you do want to do. But you can’t only focus on the process of elimination for so long. If you want to make a change, you do actually have to take action. This means being able to think about what kind of career will work out best for you. Visualizing your ideal life is great for this. Because once you work out what you want your life to look like, you can see what kind of career will fit into that.

Do Some Research

So you have a bit of an idea of what you want your life to look like, but how to do you bring it into reality? Well, you need to do your research. You may have a rough idea of what kind of career will work – such as working hours, the kind of work, or even whether you get to travel or not. So now, you need to see what careers are available. You may even want to stay in the industry you’re in, just find a better role that is more suited to your skills, lifestyle, and goals in life.

Start Your Prep

When you know what it is that you want to do for your career, you’re then going to want to get your preparations underway. If it’s very different to what you’ve been doing so far, you are going to want to make a change. And that can be quite hard to do. So, you’ll want to start doing bits on the side that can prepare you. Starting a blog or planning your path are great examples here.

Get Educated

You may also want to think about your education. In some industries, you will need to do this. Whether it’s doing your BSN to MSN online, getting a master’s in a different field, or taking a professional qualification, start now. By working on your education, you’ll be preparing yourself for the change.

Get Some Experience

Of course, you may also want to supplement that by getting some experience. Some industries won’t always let you work your way up – and you may not want to do this either. By interning and getting some experience now, you’ll be ready to get started when the time is right.

Network

Networking will also always help. Because you’ll want to make sure that you can find the position that you want to interview for. Networking with people in the industry, at the company that you want to work for, or just in your field can be a great way to get your foot in the door.

Believe In Yourself

Above all else, you need to make sure that you believe in yourself. Self-doubt and not feeling worthy will always hold you back. However, you will always find that the power of believing in yourself can really help you here. When you’re positive, confident in yourself, and have faith, you will always be able to get yourself to where you need to be in life – no matter how hard it may seem at first.
