Occasionally, through our university projects we’re given a live brief. This would be to work on a real project with a client, then they would pick one students work to actually use in the final project.

From the second we were given this brief I was instantly excited. A photography festival? Wow. As someone who’s a little obsessed with photography then this would be my ideal project. So I got to work and tried to create the perfect brand for this… and I was picked! It was amazing to have my work recognised. When I noticed the message from the organisers saying that they would like to use my work I was absolutely thrilled. This is a dream project for me.

Here are some of my initial designs I submitted for my university module.

The festival itself is being held at Brougham (pronounced BROOM) Hall this September. Initially the project was to be a lot bigger but due to funding cuts (boo) they’ve had to scale back a bit. It still looks amazing though.

Now that I’m actually getting to work on the real brief, it’s a fantastic opportunity for me to be creative on a project that excites me. My work will possibly be seen by hundreds of people attending the festival and I should get some great contacts through this. It’s amazing. There will be work exhibited by some amazing photographers such as Ian Beesley and Simon Whalley and poet and broadcaster Ian McMillan will also be attending.

I’ll post more on this as the project develops. In the mean time, if you’d like to attend you can find more information about their festival on their Facebook page. Or, since they’re still looking for photographers and poets to showcase their work, if you think you’d like to get involved check out their entry guidelines here for poets and here for photographers and hopefully I’ll see you in Penrith next month.
